Golden Gloves

Welcome to my blog, Eat More Meat Less!  I just turned 26 and I’me excited to share my love for food and fitness with you.

About four months ago, I joined a boxing and spinning gym.  Boxing is unlike any workout I’ve ever done and I’ve even noticed a difference in my body since I started doing it.  At the gym, I take classes which are an hour long, and depending on the instructor, the class has components of boxing on the bags, cardio, strength training with weights and kickboxing.  Saturdays and Sundays are my longer workouts and I will typically do spinning and then go to a boxing class.

For my birthday, my friend Erin bought me boxing gloves (my first pair!).  Although they are a beautiful gold color (I wouldn’t roll any other way), they have been giving me crazy blisters on my knuckles.  Perhaps one of the things I’m slow at learning at the boxing gym is pushing through pain.  During yesterday’s kickboxing class, I could feel the blisters opening and bleeding through my gloves.  At that point, I swore to myself that today would be an off day so that my hands could heal.  On a side note, I am now breaking in my gloves in my apartment because I understand they are like a baseball mitt that takes time to break in…

So tonight, I went on a walk through steamy Miami Beach for about an hour and 25 minutes.  I burned 625 calories (by the way, I wear a Polar F6 heart rate monitor) and have become extremely in tune with my heart rate and calories burned in a given work out.  Although it wasn’t my typical weekday workout at the gym, sometimes it’s nice to have a night off.

    I’m really getting into yoga….it’s not your typical “workout” but is still wonderful for the core and mind.
